Class Schedule

The centre is open year round and because all classes are drop-in, practical poses are chosen that everyone can move into at their own pace and enjoy. There is no competition in class and people are encouraged to close their eyes and focus inward and to continually use the breath to keep the mind focused. This allows and encourages the body to relax into each pose. These classes are suitable for all levels because the nature of the poses themselves will limit the extent to how far and deeply your body will move into them.

Meditation is an integral part of yoga practice and I encourage all of you to spend some part of your day in quietness and silence. This is an easy and gentle way to be introduced to sitting.

Welcome! My name is Gail Leslie and I am the owner & operator of the Dancing Cat Yoga Centre.  Although I am well trained in hatha & therapeutic yoga, I feel that it is my love & passion for my personal practise that gives me continuing energy to offer my skills to the community.  I believe that the power of a regular yoga practise can transform individual lives by creating a deep sense of inner peace, awareness & confidence.  This can only help to bring balance to the world at large.  Each class I teach is steeped in the philosophy of yoga coupled with the beauty of the poses & the presence of the breath.  The alert yet deep relaxation at the end of every class is an important part of the practise.  I believe you will find your experience at the Dancing Cat with any teacher of your choice not only enjoyable but transformative.

Mary Vickars has been teaching Ananda yoga in the Burnaby/New Westminster area since 2003 A stress related condition brought her to the relaxation based & transformative style of yoga.  Currently enrolled in the Ananda Yoga Therapist Program, she incorporates its healing & therapeutic benefits into each class. Modifications are offered to accommodate changing body types.  Each class ends with 15 minutes of meditation.  We have prepared our body & mind to be relaxed, quiet & receptive.  Through breath work, mantra, music, chanting, we explore & practise meditation.  Meditation gives us the tools to: combat stress, explore healing, tap into the brain’s potential to grow, improve creativity& feel balance & centred enhancing our life & relationships. Mary weaves the philosophy of yoga throughout the class & teaches as an ongoing student of yogda.  Purchase a 4 ($44) 6 ($66) and 8($88) class pass with an expiry date of 6,8,10 weeks. SHARE it with a friend! Good for Monday and / or Thursday classes. Drop in $15. Facebook: Yoga With Mary

Each personal practise or yoga class is a new opportunity to explore connections between body, mind & breath.  Practising with mindfulness leads to understanding what the body needs in each session: stretching to create mobility or strengthening to bring stability.  The breath helps us to further slow down and become aware of our individual abilities& limitations so we can find our “edge” to grow from.  My teaching is informed by ongoing studies & explorations of the principles of yoga as well as anatomy & physiology & I enjoy sharing that knowledge when guiding students through a yoga practise.  I am a certified yoga teacher and yoga therapist.  Teaching at the Dancing Cat Yoga Centre is as joy & a privilege.  Please call or email if you need more information or to find out about private yoga therapy session.
